Opening Ceremony

On July 26 at 19:30 along the Seine and at sunset, the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics will be the first. For the first time in Olympic history, the opening ceremony will be held outside a stadium environment. Around 10,500 athletes will parade through the heart of the French capital on boats on the Seine along a 6-kilometer route. Due to security concerns, tourists will not be given free access to watch the opening ceremony. Instead, there will be an invitation with a QR code system.

Host Cities

The capital Paris and the neighboring cities of Saint-Denis, Le Bourget, Nanterre, Versailles and Vaires-sur-Marne will host the majority of the Olympic events, with handball tournaments taking place in Lille, 225 km from Paris, sailing and some football games in Marseille, 777 km from the host city, and surfing events in the village of Teahupo'o, 15,716 km from the host city. In football, five other cities will host the games: Bordeaux, Décines-Charpieu (Lyon), Nantes, Nice and Saint-Étienne.

Security Measures at the Olympics

Information on security plans for the Summer Olympics in Paris has reportedly been stolen. In the incident at the North Station, a 56-year-old engineer working for the Municipality of Paris had his bag stolen, along with a computer and two USBs. The bag contained sensitive information on the measures to be taken by the security forces and the police during the Olympics. The engineer placed his bag in the compartment above his train seat and realized it had been stolen when he got off. Police investigations have not yet yielded any results. The Olympics, which will be held July 26-August 11, will see the deployment of 35,000 security guards and the installation of special access points and QR code ID scanning systems.

Medals

Designed for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the medals feature original metal pieces taken from France's iconic Eiffel Tower. Designed in a hexagonal shape, the medals are enriched with iron removed from the tower during renovations in the 20th century. Both the Olympic and Paralympic medals are produced at the French Mint, where the medals for the 1924 Olympics were also struck. Each medal is carefully designed to reflect the stories and achievements of the athletes and is embellished with the heritage of the Eiffel Tower, the symbol of Paris and France. These medals, like the Games, will be unforgettable and hold stories that will be told for generations.
